In the first quarter of this year, as the COVID-19 pandemic spread both domestically and internationally, home textile enterprises encountered unprecedented difficulties in production and operations. Both domestic and overseas sales orders declined significantly, severely impacting the industry’s operations and profitability. Since late February, as the domestic epidemic has been gradually brought under effective control, domestic-oriented home textile enterprises have resumed production and operations in a step-by-step and orderly manner. However, given the ongoing spread of the pandemic abroad, export-oriented home textile enterprises are facing even more severe challenges. Statistical data show that major operating indicators for the home textile industry all posted negative growth in the first quarter, putting significant pressure on enterprise operations.

During the first week of July 2016 (July 4–10), the overall market conditions in Shaoxing’s traditional China Light and Textile City saw a decline in both customer traffic and sales volume. Weekly marketing activities continued to weaken compared to the previous week, with sales declines becoming increasingly pronounced. Over the past week, as the conventional off-season for the light and textile industry set in, most segments of Shaoxing’s traditional light and textile market began to show successive downward trends. Throughout the week, demand for urgently needed and time-sensitive products gradually waned; coupled with the ongoing reduction in inventory of semi-thin fabrics that had been introduced six months earlier and a further decrease in new order placements, many established, professional traders who previously opened early and closed late started opening later and closing earlier instead.
